Once sold at Home Depot, you will now not find a Charmglow 720-0036-HD-05 outdoor gas grill easily. The reason? Why don’t you read on to find out?

Nexgrill Industries, headquartered in Los Angeles, is one of the leading producers of patio heaters, stainless steel gas grills and stainless tool cabinets. Charmglow 720-0036-HD-05 outdoor gas grills were also a part of their product line.

While trying to compare Charmglow gas grills reviews for you, we became aware of the fact that Nexgrill recalled about 86,000 Charmglow gas grills sold on Home Depot in 2005. The recalled grills were mostly 720-0036-HD-05 models.

The Charmglow gas grills were discontinued because there were five reported incidents of fires that involved gas leaks from the hose and 45 additional reports of episodes involving possible gas leaks from these grills.

Apparently, there was a manufacturing defect in the grills due to which the hose connecting the propane tank with the manifold ran up too close to the firebox. The heat from the firebox caused damage to the hose, leading to a gas leak.

Apart from the safety hazard, the Charmglow 720-0036-HD-05 outdoor gas grill did have its plus points. A medium-sized grill, it was largely made of stainless steel. Moderately priced, it was equipped with three main burners (with a separate burn control for each) and a side burner.

It occupied a total space of 48 by 49 by 24 inches (height-width-depth) and was ideal for gatherings of up to 12 people. It had stainless steel grates, which are generally sturdier than those made of coated steel and resist rust even without a porcelain coating.

Other key features of the Charmglow 720-0036-HD-05 were:

  • Rotary ignition
  • Heat output of 36,000 Btu/hr from the main burner and 12,000 Btu/hr from the side burner
  • Four casters
  • Five-year warranty on the burners, one year on the castings and three years on other parts

Despite being a popular product, most consumers are more than glad that it was taken off the market. After all, safety always comes first!
